Screenwriting, Screenplays, Screenwriters ? Incremental Productivity

When attempting to understand Creativity and Innovation, it pays to import the vast range of research and knowledge that has been accumulated in these fields ? most of it is to be found in the field of Business and Management.

For example, Writer's Block is intimately related to Organizational Culture ? the same principles that prevent people from generating ideas in the corporate workplace are also responsible for Writer's Block - evaluation apprehension in its many forms. Another example, the principles that prevent screenwriters from getting their work successful commercialised are the same as those that prevent organisation's successfully implementing innovation ? lack of access to decision makers and so on.

Consequently, the following is one area of Creativity and Innovation Management that can assist screenwriters.

Incremental Productivity

Whilst radical innovation is glamorised, the true hero is incremental innovation. In other words: sustained, smaller changes. Whilst a few radical innovations are the result of giant leaps, the vast majority result from incremental changes applied over long periods. This principle can be applied in a number of ways:

a) Rather than wait for the "big idea," the chances of hitting on the "big idea" increase when writers engage in not so dynamic projects, develop their competencies, identify and solve problems in a regular and sustained way. We know this to be true because screenwriters tend to come up with their best ideas WHILST they are working on a project.

b) Artists often tinker with various concepts for long periods resulting in work that grows in distance, novelty and diversity from the original idea. That is until new knowledge causes the artist to leap onto a new concept, which is radically different from the original idea and grows further away in terms of distance, diversity and novelty ? it increases in radical nature. In other words, radical leaps are a product of incremental activity.

c) We often use the term "think outside of the box." But what does it actually mean? Some of the most successful ideas have resulted from small changes that were originally just outside of the box. Take the low cost airline model of South West Airlines and EasyJet ? the only difference between the standard and their models is essentially price. They took the small notion of price and pushed it outside the box where it seemed impossible ? London to Spain for $30 was thinking outside the box at one time. Again, radical ideas result from small changes.

d) In the field of drama and improvisation, actors have found that the best ideas result from not trying to be original but being UNORIGINAL.

8 Breakthrough Ways to Bring Free Visitors to Your Site!

Many websites have great ideas, excellent content, brilliant deals and terrific potential. However, the truth is, the majority of these sites fail. This is for the simple reason that these sites can not get sufficient visitors.

I hope to address this problem with 8 sure-fire ways to bring guaranteed visitors to your site within a matter of days:

1. Write your own articles

Increase traffic to your site immediately by writing your own articles and publishing them in relevant ezines or on relevant websites. At the beginning and end of your article, include a link to your site and a small sentence explaining how it would benefit the reader. This is a proven way to achieve tremendous, targeted traffic from all over the web. Do not be afraid to contact owners of large ezines. These ezine publishers need articles, especially if they publish a daily ezine. Just send them a polite, personal email, with your article neatly formatted. Writing your own articles also has the benefit of a long lasting effect. Once your article has been published in a big ezine, many readers of that ezine will use your article in their own ezine. Your article could be circulating around the web for months.

2. Create your own ebook

Create your own ebook relevant to your site's subject matter. Include a link back to your site on every page of the ebook. Make sure it is clearly stated on your ebook that it can be freely distributed so long as it is not altered in any way. Then, give it away on your own site, and distribute it to other relevant internet sites. These sites will probably be happy to distribute it for you, seeing as big sites are always looking for new ebooks to give away to enhance their popularity. You can then stop distributing your ebook after a while and then sit back and watch traffic pour into your site. A benefit is that if your traffic flow ever decreases again, then you can always distribute your ebook again.

3. Search engine optimisation

A high ranking on the popular search engines is one of the best ways to achieve incredible traffic within a couple of days. However, getting a high ranking on the top search engines is easier said than done. Briefly, these are the ways to get high search engine ranking:

  • Having a large number of links to your site all over the web
  • Having a large percentage of keywords in your content
  • Using effective meta tags (good keywords, etc...)
  • Using keywords in headings or in bold type
  • Using clean code with no unnecessary jargon

4. Using an email signature

This is possibly the most under-rated way of advertising on the internet. Think about how many emails you send a week. If you're a webmaster who is trying to get rich, you should be sending a lot! Just use a small signature at the end of each email such as:

====================================
100s of free ebooks and software products -
Go to - http://www.info-ebooks.co.uk
====================================

This will alert everyone you email, whether it be family, friends or prospective customers, that you have a site which is worth visiting. Notice how I have used the '=' sign to highlight my signature. This stands out much more than the '-' sign and will allow for maximum visibility. If you have family or friends who do not use an email signature, then ask them to have a similar signature as yours at the end of every one of their emails. You'll soon see an influx of visitors.

5. Link exchanges

Link exchanges are great because they cost nothing, are very long lasting, and also bring in extremely targeted traffic to your site. Link exchanges work by you and another website owner putting a link on each other's site so that each of you benefits. When choosing a site to link with, be careful about choosing a site very similar to yours. In this way, the other site's link does not look like an advertisement on your site, and you will also receive plentiful, targeted traffic. Link exchanges also have the benefit of helping you increase your search engine rankings seeing as you are increasing the amount of links to your site all over the web.

6. Autoresponder advertising

If you want to be a successful internet businessman you need to have an autoresponder. It is an essential tool which will save you hours of precious time. You can set your autoresponder up to email your prospects at certain intervals, and so take advantage, and send your new prospects emails about your new products, your special deals and your unique selling point which will benefit the reader. Alternatively, if you use your autoresponder to send out your special email course, make sure you have a small advertisement at the bottom and top of the email. Either way, this is a way to get great traffic without you having to do any work.

7. Using the power of recommendation

Nothing will make people come to your site more than having a friend recommend it to them. Everyone respects their friend's opinions and if you can get people to recommend your site then you're very likely to achieve a maximum amount of traffic. Word of mouth is a very common way of spreading 'the best new thing'. To get a recommendation script to put on your website so that visitors can recommend your site at the click of a button, go to http://www.cgi-resources.com or http://www.hotscripts.com. Generally, I find that people will not recommend your site unless there is an incentive. Therefore, offer a free reward if people recommend your site, such as a free ebook or free software product. Also, make sure that your recommendation form is on lots of your web pages and that it is very visible. Soon, you will have a large number recommending their friends to your site.

8. Holding a contest on your website

Holding a contest is a concept which has been highly neglected, even though it has tremendous traffic building potential. Hold a contest on your site for something that your site is based around. For example, if your site is based around video games, the prize could be the latest video game, which you know everyone who visits your site will be interested in. Often you don't have to pay for the prize either. Many companies would be happy to give you a free prize, because the company would receive free advertising. People will come to your site, see the contest, and if they like it (which you have to make sure they do), they will almost certainly tell a friend about it. This way you will collect a load of email addresses, which you can mail to, to tell them about product updates. The potential for traffic is unlimited. Plus, by offering competitions like this, your site will gain popularity from winners, and you could also offer a consolation prize to those who haven't won, so that you get popularity from all the losers of the competition too.

Do You Make These 3 Mistakes In Your Christian Life?

You're probably sabotaging your successful Christian life right now if you're making one or more of these mistakes. Do you know what they are?

I'm going to share with you quickly three of the most common mistakes that Christians make and how they can be corrected.

Mistake #1: "Being a Christian means I am a sinner that was saved by God's mercy and I'm still a sinner..."

This is a commonly held misbelief by many Christians. They belief that they are still sinners. Christians are not still sinners who only received God's mercy at salvation.

When you accepted God's free gift of salvation because of his mercy, you also received something by grace--his life!

So you are no longer a sinner, you are a totally new creation, God has placed his life inside of you to make you who you are--a righteous and holy Saint!

Mistake #2: "I have to try to act like the Christian I am supposed to be-a good, moral, holy person..."

Satan often uses this to trick Christians by giving them this thought, that would appear to be a good thing--but it is actually a source of disaster!

You see, this goes along with mistake #1, when you try to act like something you're not you are bound for failure!

If you realize the fallacy of thinking that you are a sinner you won't act like one. And when you realize that you already are a righteous, holy, new creation because of the finished work of Christ--you won't have to act like one because you are one!

It's impossible to successfully be something you are not. You have the victory to succeed as a righteous Christian because you are, because you have Christ's life that remade you!

Mistake #3: "I better be sure to ask forgiveness for my sins when I do sin because I want to make sure I'm forgiven of them, so God will still love me..."

Why would you ask for something that you already have? Why would you ask for forgiveness of sins you have already been forgiven of?

When Christ died on the Cross for the sins of the world, he died for ALL of them! Right? So when you accepted by faith his gift of salvation, the sacrifice that he made for your sins you received forgiveness for ALL of your sins! That is why Christ said, "It is finished".

A common misunderstanding is that he died only for those sins you have already committed, not future ones. That sins you commit from here on out have to be forgiven.

Ponder this for a moment, how many of your sins were in the future 2,000 yrs ago?

You are completely and totally forgiven of all of your sins-past, present, and future! You received the life of Christ upon accepting salvation, that's why you are a reborn, righteous saint! Instead of asking for forgiveness, give God praise for the awesome completed work at the cross!

Selling White Space

Almost all Internet Marketers have a basic idea of what they want to achieve in their careers. They may want to close more sales and earn a higher income.

The process is quite simple.
They craft a targeted letter with a powerful offer and post it on a web page. However, somehow they do not achieve the success they desire.

Why?
Why is it that intelligent, motivated, hard-working individuals are not achieving the success they deserve? It is because they don't know to sell white space.

They pay all attention to sales letter vital elements:
  • The Headline.
They create a power headline to get the reader's immediate attention and create curiosity.

  • The Body.
(presentation of products characteristics) They create interest and desire through answering the question "what's in it for me?".

  • The Sub-Headlines.
A sub-headline is an one line statement containing a powerful benefit of product. Headlines are very important because they make sales letter better structured and charge up the reader.

  • The Irresistible Offer.
They always offer a strong risk-free guarantee and give a free bonus together with the product.

  • The Invitation to Order.
Always they finish the sales letter with asking for prospects to order NOW! They do not forget that sales research has shown that over 90% of the sales process is based on having a good rapport with the prospect. They build trust and have the best coverage for the client. They write short and use direct statements that cut right to the heart of the matter, making everything as simple and direct as they possibly can.

But sometimes they forget to make letter easy to read. Following the desire to offer a full presentation of the product they often put too much inside, line after line. Nothing kills more sales than a full solid page of type and the result is a boring letter that people will not read it.

The solution is to offer a pleasure to customer's eye using white space accordingly. The easier it is to read your letter or web page the more money you make.

Don't torture your potential customer. Make you letter as "aired" as you can and you will make the most money just selling white space.

Top 5 Secrets to Making Money with Adsense

Did someone tell you you can make money easily with Google Adsense? Did they tell you that to put up a site and people will click on the ads and you can make hundreds of dollars per day?

Maybe that's true, for them, because they have a system to make this happen. They may have omitted how to make and Adsense site successful. In this article I will highlight the most important points to make your site successful.

    5. Position your ads so that they look as if they are part of the content.

Position your ads so that the ads are in the visitor's field of vision. Although, you might think that putting the ads in the right and left columns keep your site clean, the clickthrough is not as effective as putting them in between the content. Look at your newspapers classifieds. Notice how many of the ads are surrounded by the actual articles? Same concepts apply here. At the very least do some of both.

    4. Don't make the ads look like Ads!

People get turned off by ads with borders. We are psychologically trained to think that anything surrounded with a border is probably an ad. Look at all the print media and all over the web, and you'll notice that most ads have borders that alert visitors that they are ads. This is NOT what You want to do!

Go in your Google Adsense Layout tool and change the border colors and backgrounds to match your website colors. This will make them look like they are part of your site not ads. I cannot emphasize this enough.

Removing borders will increase your clickthrough rate immediately!

    3. Add a Google Search Box on your website.

Such a simple thing but often overlooked. Did you know that if your site visitors use your Google Search box you get credited with a click? People surf the web for one primary reason -- to find information. Your website provides information. However, it is rare that we find what we want on one website. And, if we want more info we tend to want to search for more. How convenient to have a Google Search box at the end of your article!

    2. Provide good content.

You may be tempted to put little content on your site. After all you want people to click on the ads not stay on your site. This may have some truth in it, but think of it the other way. Having valueable content on your site means that your visitors are more likely to bookmark your site, and the search engines will like your site better.

    1. And the NUMBER ONE secret to Making Money with Adsense....

Put up as many sites as possible! Yes, this is what is never told to you. Why invest all your energy trying to get traffic to one site? What if the topic you chose is not a very popular one or has so much competetion that you get little traffic? A well known strategy is to put up as many sites as possible and then monitor the results to see which ones work and which ones don't. With the ones that do, put in extra effort to get more traffic to those sites.

To do this without buying a domain name for each one, get an account at a web host that allows unlimited subdomains. When you register a name get something general for each theme. Then use subdomains to make all the related sites.

Finally, if designing web sites is not your strong point, you can get pre-built sites and/or templates which are already layed out with the techniques I described. That will get you up and running pretty quick. Take a look at http://www.instant-adsense-websites.com.

Attaboy! Encouraging Phrases That Build Confidence

    Home, home on the range,
    Where never is heard
    A discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day!

Oh, that would be wonderful but most parents and bosses tend to feel that criticism and pointing out what is wrong will make others want to do what is right. However, people cannot improve unless they feel good enough about themselves to believe they are capable of improvement. An encouraging parent stops using negative comments about a child and uses methods, words and actions that indicate a respect for the child and a faith in his abilities.

Jack Canfield of Chicken Soup for the Soul fame often cites a study done by some graduate students who followed a normal group of two-year olds around for a day. These average kids from average homes received 432 negative statements as opposed to 32 positive statements daily. The teachers, aides and other children were constantly saying, "Don't touch that." "No, it is done this way" "No, you are not big enough." The national PTO (Parent teacher Organization) found the ratio of praise to criticism of school age children to be 18 negative to each positive. It is such automatic action to state things in the negative; we have to learn the words to use in encouraging our children.

Encouragement is the process of focusing on your children's assets and strengths in order to build their self-confidence and feelings of worth. I like to think of the word encourage broken into "en" courage meaning I am giving you the gift of courage. Inherent in that gift is the idea that it is okay to take risks and perhaps even to fail, but to go ahead and try it anyway. We need to convey though words and gestures that we appreciate their efforts and improvement not just their accomplishments. We need to make sure they understand that our love and acceptance is not dependent on their behavior or winning the prize in soccer.

Here is a list of 15 encouraging words and phrases that will assist your child to keep trying and increase his self-esteem and confidence.

    1. "I like the way you handled that" 2. "Wow, you really thought out the solution to that problem" 3. "I have faith in your ability" 4. "I appreciate what you did" 5. "You are really showing improvement" 6. "I know you will figure out a good way to do it next time" 7. "You don't have to be perfect. Effort and improvement are important." 8. "I trust you to be responsible" 9. "It must make you proud of yourself when you accomplish something like that" 10. "You are a valuable part of the team" 11. "It is okay to make a mistake, we all do. What do you think you learned from it?" 12. "How can we turn this into a positive?" 13. "I'm proud of you for trying" 14. "I'll bet by next year you will be able to handle it, you just need to grow a little" 15. "I know you are disappointed that you didn't win, but you'll do better next time."

Good luck in your efforts to be more positive and encouraging to those around you. Your children, family and employees will be grateful and will rise to your expectations. You do an important work.

10 Benefits of an Electronic Medical Record

    Electronic Medical Record

An Electronic Medical Record is a secured electronic file of patient history, medical transcription notes, billing information, and all other information necessary to have a complete patient profile. It is true that the electronic medical record is indicative of a faster-paced informational age in which larger quantities of information require more effective database infrastructure, but there are many more benefits to both the medical service provider and the consumer. This informational article points out 10 benefits of an electronic medical record of which both practices and patients need to be aware.

    1. Speed

As mentioned in the introduction, the business world of the 21st century is fast-paced. Even in medical practices, speed equals ability to compete, especially when managing information. That is why an electronic medical record system, or EMR, is used by most medical practices. In addition, a fast electronic medical record system requires less time invested in trouble shooting and allows more time invested in caring for patients.

    2. Storage

An electronic medical record is an electronic database of information capable of carrying much more information than traditional systems. An electronic medical record system can manage records from multiple offices as well as multiple types of records.

    3. Security

An electronic medical record system secures records with backup files in case of emergencies. In addition, only authorized users may access them. This double security system is a "preventative medicine" for record viruses.

    4. Support

Both practices and patients can access customer support from a medical billing specialist provided through the electronic medical record software. In addition to their support, electronic medical record software provides access to medical codes, including, ICD.9, HIPAA, HCFA 1500, and the latest CPT code books.

    5. Accessibility

The latest electronic medical record technology allows information to be downloaded directly onto a PDA or Palm device. In addition to PDA access, authorized individuals can access an electronic medical record online from any location.

    6. Affordability

This is perhaps the most appealing part of the latest electronic medical record technology. Every business wants to save money while at the same time adopting time-saving technology. Because electronic medical record software uses online technology, much of the set up costs and overhead are eliminated and reduced to monthly usage fees.

    7. Infrastructure

Part of the money-saving nature of electronic medical record technology is the elimination of IT infrastructure and the streamlining of multiple databases. The infrastructure is simplified into one online database, even for multiple offices.

    8. Versatility

I have already mentioned multiple office management with electronic medical record software, but there is much more to this software than meets the eye. Electronic medical record software stores medical transcription SOAP notes and medical codes. It allows multiple users. It also connects users to personal and online support sources.

    9. Efficiency

We have almost made it full circle in our discussion of the benefits of having an electronic medical record. But efficiency is not the same as speed. Efficiency takes all of the duties involved in medical record and medical office management divided by time and money. Electronic medical record software can increase the numerators and decrease the denominators. Businesses often ask about the bottom line. Well, the math says it all.

    10. Manageability

The benefits of an electronic medical record may sound wonderful, but there is one more question to ask: Is it user friendly? When adopting new technology, remember that the master needs to ride in the saddle, not the horse. Some technology requires so much attention that a business owner may be worried that he or she is now employed by the new technology and not the other way around. Electronic medical record software works for businesses.

A word of advice: in any given search engine there are millions of indexed pages that will appear as relevant results to a search for "electronic medical record", or "EMR". Use these benefits as search sifters, to identify the right electronic medical record software to work for your practice.

    Benefits of a Secured Loan

The secured loan is favoured by many UK residents seeking credit for a number of reasons:

    - A secured loan is far easier to obtain than unsecured loans. The added security that this type of loan gives the lender means that even those with a less than perfect credit history can get hold of a secured loan with relative ease.

    - A secured loan is often offered with more favourable terms than other types of loans. With secured loans it is also far more likely that you will be able to borrow a larger amount of money and pay it back over a longer period of time.

    - A secured loan can help you to free up equity that would otherwise remain dormant in your property, letting you make use of capital that would otherwise remain unobtainable.

    - The interest rates on secured loans are often considerably lower than those offered on unsecured loans.

    - A secured loan will enable you to get your hands on money that would otherwise take a long time to save up, allowing you the freedom to spend it on whatever you want.

    - A secured loan can be used for any purpose such as; paying off debts, making home improvements, buying a new car, luxury holiday or anything you choose!

5 Things That Americans Can Do To Remember Reviving, Surviving and Thriving in the Wake of Sept 11

For those people who lost friends and loved ones in the September 11th World Trade Center attacks, the anniversary will re-open the wounds and renew the pain of great loss. For the rest of us, it is a painful reminder of our vulnerability. The anniversary renews our grief for the loss of security and innocence we enjoyed in peaceful times.

How do we experience the anniversary of our greatest national disaster in a positive way?

  • Talk about it with others. How far have we come? What have we learned? How are we feeling? as a country, and as individuals?
  • Honor those we knew and loved who lost their lives. Write about them, look at the pictures again, and talk about them. Keep their memories alive openly.
  • Be with your supporters, at home and away. Reconnect with the positive people in your life. Sharing with others always makes the burden lighter.
  • Take care of yourself, physically and emotionally. Do physical exercise? breath deeply and live fully. Do something you always wanted to do. Take a long walk.
  • Turn your most negative experience to a positive, by giving to others. It is through giving that you will receive so much more in return. By helping others, anger and pain are transformed into power; the power to make our world better in the wake of crisis.

A Kilt is More than Just a Skirt for Men!

The Kilt has been the target of many a joke and ribald comment for more years than it can probably remember!

But is it fair for it to be the butt of so many jokes?

After all, not only is the Kilt a recognised fashion item in it's own right, it's also more importantly a world recognised symbol of a country and the fierce national pride contained within!

Many a soldier has shuddered and shaken in fear in centuries gone when faced with a Scottish Warrior, kilt swirling in steadfast defiance of normality, broadsword or other razor sharp lethal weapon cutting huges scythes in the air as he charged.

Indeed, many fields of war were won purely by the arrival of Scotsmen dressed in their tradional tartan kilts. To many, the knowledge that the wearer wore nothing underneath was cause enough to panic! Add to this the ferocity of such a warrior and not many would stand up in front of them.

But ever since those heady days of hand to hand combat and battles fought face to face, some of the mystery and folklore of the Kilt remains. Ideas that you can only wear a Tartan Kilt if you are a member of that clan still abide today, wrongly in many cases.

Maybe this stops some people wearing a kilt?

Or does the fear of society's view of a man effectively wearing what many still describe as a skirt also play a strong part?

But then what of those men among us who are recognised as being the manliest of men? Does wearing a kilt reduce their appearance and reputation at all? Famous celebrities such as Sean Connery, Billy Connely, Ewan McGregor or Mel Gibson?

How many women did - and still would - swoon clean away to see Mel Gibson walking towards them, kilt swaying in time to his steps? I strongly suspect - most! It would not be a swoon induced by dislike or scorn neither, more of one where they're opinion has been enhanced as to the character and strength of the man involved.

I had the great pleasure of wearing a kilt many, many years ago when I was 6. The occassion was as a Page Boy for my Uncle and Aunts wedding. White ruffled shirt, red and blue tartan kilt with sporran and shoes. the only thing missing was the Dirk. For some reason never suitably explained by my parents, they seemed very nervous of letting their 6 year old offspring walk around with a small dagger shoved into the top of his sock! Spoilsports!

Even now, looking back at the old black and white photos - yes, it WAS that long ago - I get a thrill of seeing myself dressed like that.

    Why?

Because it was different, unique and - dare I say it - I looked damn good! (I seem to remember it made a huge impression on my fellow official for the occasion, the bridesmaid called Candy, a curly blonde haired girl a year older than me. I have a misty memory of her asking her mom why i was wearing a skirt!)

A kilt nowadays plays a much larger part. Beyond the more well known kilts of Scotland with their heritage of history behind each unique Tartan design, comes the Kilts of Ireland and Wales in family crests or solid colors.

With society relaxing it's own strict and nonsensical ideas of what is right and what is wrong, more men are coming to wear kilts, enjoying the uniqueness and freedom such a garment gives.

It is now more common to attend company dinners, awards and opening nights and spot one or two men dressed in kilted splendour.

Indeed, a whole new industry is beginning to grow - assisted by the internet with it's ease of ordering and choosing - where new styles, designs and ideas of the traditional kilt are being tested and reworked.

For example, you can now buy kilts in camo pattern or kilts with pockets either side as opposed to the standard requirement for a sporran.

As for me and the kilt - as I get older and less worried about what other people think of me, the thoughts do stray to when I was 6 years old and how proud I felt dressed in such regal splendour. With the hot weather getting hotter each day a cooling breeze would certainly be more welcome as well!

Now then, where did I put that sporran and dirk?

How to Get Credit Reporting Agencies to Help You

The process of clearing credit can be laborious and frustrating. Understanding your rights empowers you and saves you time and effort. By employing the following tips, you can enlist the help of credit reporting agencies (CRAs) as you work to improve your credit rating.

A negative credit report hinders your quest for financing a house. You will have to do a lot of tedious work to clear up any mistakes in your credit report, but remember that CRAs are required by law to protect your rights. They must remove undocumented information on your report.

Once you receive your reports, you will be given a phone number to discuss your report with a real person. Your gentle manners and pleasant conversations with the credit bureau employees will motivate them to help you more than angry words. Remember, these people are just doing their job and they get yelled at day after day by frustrated consumers.

    Double-D Line of Attack

    Dispute Discrepancies and Document

Complete the dispute form provided with your credit report and write a letter for all discrepancies to both the creditor and the credit bureaus listing the item. Identify each error by their corresponding account number and state why it's wrong. Include a photocopy of your credit report with the errors circled with your dispute form and letters. Send copies of your supporting documents. Keep your letters in your computer in case you need to write again.

    Document, document, document

Keep copies and records of all the dispute forms, letters, and supporting documents that you send. In extreme cases this proof is used by attorneys for settlement or in court.

Credit bureaus must investigate disputes within 30 days of receiving your complaints. Any item that is not verified as accurate by a creditor is supposed to be removed. However, the supposed creditors do not have to provide any supporting documentation. All they have to do is state that the account is reported accurately.

For this reason, after receiving your updated credit reports, check to see what actions were taken. If you still have erroneous information listed on your credit report, you need to start the entire process over again. At this point, take stronger action both with the original creditor and with the credit reporting agencies.

The Oz Principle - A Book Summary

In The Oz Principle, Connors, Smith, and Hickman brilliantly use the analogy of "The Wizard of Oz" to discuss a business philosophy aimed in propelling individuals and organizations to overcome unfavorable circumstances and achieve desired results. This philosophy can be encompassed in one word: ACCOUNTABILITY.

The eponymous principle builds upon the ethos of personal and organizational accountability. It explores the root cause of an organization's impediments to exceptional performance and productivity, and provides great insight on how to re-establish a business from the bottom up, emphasizing on the thin line that separates success from failure. The Above The Line, Below The Line methodology is the driving force behind The Oz Principle.

The Oz Principle: Getting Results through Accountability

Just like Dorothy's search for the Wizard of Oz for enlightenment, individuals and organizations also seek out the wizard that will save them from the maladies that afflict their workplace. However, the wizard is just a distraction, bearing new-fangled business philosophies and management fads that will only create a layer atop the ugly truth that needs to be revealed. When the core problem is not addressed, the ills will eventually resurface and the business is back to its sorry state.

    Victim Thinking or Failed Accountability

When a company suffers from poor performance or unsatisfactory results, individuals from top management all the way to the front line begin finger-pointing, forming excuses, rationalizing, and justifying, instead of doing something to alleviate the situation. They foolishly profess that the circumstances have made victims of them, that the events are completely out of their control, and that they shouldn't be blamed for the company's current problems. It's always something or someone else, never themselves.

Above The Line, Below The Line

A thin line separates failure and success, greatness and mediocrity.

Above The Line, you'll find the Steps to Accountability which include in chronological order: See It, Own It, Solve It, and Do It. The first step, See It, means acknowledging the problem; to Own It is to assume responsibility for the problem and the results; Solve It means to formulate solutions to remedy the situation; and, as a culminating step, Do It commands the practical application of the solutions identified.

Below The Line is where the self-professed victims play

The Blame Game. Here, crippling attitudes such as Wait and See, Confusion/Tell Me What To Do, It's Not My Job, Ignore/Deny, Finger Pointing, and Cover Your Tail are rampant. Though majority of the people found in this dimension are weak in accountability, this does not mean that very accountable individuals are exempt from falling Below The Line. They, too, slip every now and then. The only difference is that they know how to get out of the rut.

    A Simple Solution to Victimization

Individuals and organizations Below The Line languish in self-pity until they get trapped in the "I Am a Victim" mind-set and find it hard to break free from the vicious cycle. Accountability offers a very simple choice to make, albeit a difficult one to act upon: "You can either get stuck or get results." So stark in its simplicity that most people fail to realize that the ball has always been in their court.

The Power of Individual Accountability: Moving Yourself Above The Line

The first step to accountability is recognizing the problem. It takes great courage to admit that you are stuck in a difficult situation. Most people, however, fail to view reality the way it is because they choose to ignore it or they accept the situation as the status quo and go along with it.

To commence the march up the Steps to Accountability, you must first muster the courage to: a) recognize when you fall Below The Line; b) realize that remaining Below The Line not only ignores the real problem but leads to increasingly poor results; and c) acknowledge and accept reality as the first step toward taking accountability.

Mustering the courage to See It will lead to the next step, Owning It. Here, you must have the heart to own the circumstances you've recognized in the See It step as well as the results that will come from the course of action you plan to take.

"What else can I do to rise above my circumstances and achieve the results I want?" That is the question to continually ask yourself when you find yourself stuck in a stubborn situation. Apart from creating solutions, Solving It also involves foresight in determining the worst possible scenario that can happen, and being prepared to battle it head on.

Having solutions is not enough if you neglect practical application. You can't Do It unless you make yourself accountable not only for immediate circumstances but also for future accomplishment. With this, you are empowering not only yourself but also your organization.

It's so easy to be pulled back Below The Line, especially if you don't accept full accountability for the situation and the future. A lot people are afraid to become accountable because they fear the risks associated with it. However, know that without taking the big leap, you will never get anywhere.

    The SKINNY on Radio Advertising

From meager beginnings in 1920, radio has grown with us to be a major player in advertising. The radio industry says they get about 8 percent of all advertising bucks. Not bad when you consider the many ways to hawk your service or product

They get their fair share because radio works. With over twelve THOUSAND radio stations in the country, the music and news they broadcast is everywhere.

Radio is the mobile medium. Few cars have TV's up front, and few drivers can read the New York Times while driving (safely). The advertising on radio targets you passively. You don't have to be looking at it or reading it to get the message.

Radio's strength is drive time. The times of the day when most people are in their cars driving to and from work. You can sound like a pro when you call 'em AMD and PMD.

AMD is morning (AM) drive time, typically 6 to 10am. AMD is traditionally the most expensive radio time because that's when more people listen.

PMD is afternoon (PM) drive and is considered to be 4 to 7pm.

Other radio slots are DAY which represents 10a to 4p period and EVE, 7 to midnight.

Most radio stations offer two ways to buy ads. Specific placement (I want to be in the Roscoe Billy Bob Show) and ROS (Run of Station) a formula that spreads your announcments into all dayparts, including late night and overnight. Of course there are specials and sponsorships, too.

Here are my tips for buying radio ads

+ Always use 30 second ads. If you can say the whole Lord's Prayer in 20 seconds, 30 is enough for your business (no matter what the media person says)

+ Buy advertising on the stations that reach your target customers, not the ones you like. Just because you listen doesn't mean everyone does (especially if you like Classical Music)

+ Buy ads on two or more stations if possible. Few markets have one radio station so dominant that it reaches all the listeners.

+ Buy one week on one station, the next week on the other, back and fourth. Limit your buy to 4 weeks in any month, two on each station. 48 weeks per year gets thew same impact of 52 and saves 4.

+ Buy at least 12 ads a week (18 on each if you can afford it) and advertise every other month.

+ Insist on no overnight or evening ads. Ask for a package that puts you in AMD and PMD at a discount. Like the newspaper inches committment, you are talking about over 400 ads per year per station.

For more about radio get my article "Do Your Radio Ads Work?" Send a blank eMail to MailTo:RadioAds@BigIdeasGroup.com

Remember the media salesperson is interested in selling ads, not improving your business. It is up to you to be the expert and make the informed decisions.
